Juji uke is the so-called cross block. The forearms and the solid clenched fists form a cross in the area of the wrists. The attacking extremity is caught at the apex of the "cross". Also in this block technique the hip is used for an effectively defend against a strike/ kick.

Juji uke is also known as Kosa uke.

The following variations of Juji uke are possible:

  • Jodan juji uke – Cross block on the upper level
  • Gedan juji uke – Cross block on the lower level
  • Shuto juji uke – the hands are not clenched into a fist, but are shaped like for the hand edge strike (Tegatana Ate).
