Achilles tendon
[Tendo Achillis]
Anatomy:
- The Achilles tendon [Tendo Achillis] is the thickest and strongest tendon of the human being. It starts at the back above on the heel bone [Calcaneus]. Then it runs, becoming slightly thinner, straight up, has its narrowest point approximately 4 cm above the origin to become wider again from there. The average length is 20-25 cm, with almost advertise on the front to approach muscle fibers. The Achilles tendon transmits the force of the triceps surae muscle, and the soleus muscle. This allows the Achilles tendon especially the forceful flexion of the foot toward the sole of the foot, but also the outward lateral tilt of the foot. The naming of the Achilles tendon is based on the legend of Achilles, a hero of Greek mythology.
