Shinbone
[Tibia]
Anatomy:
- The shin [Tibia] is next to the calf [Fibula] one of the two leg bones of the lower leg. The shin is the stronger one of the two bones and a typical tubular bone. The calf is found on the outside of the leg, while the shin is centered at the knee joint. It widens towards the knee joint; to the head of the shin. The head of the shin has on its top two small hollows, in which the condyles of the upper leg bone are included. The shaft of the shin is applied triangular. Toward the ankle the shin broadens and forming the substantial portion of the articular surface of the upper ankle joint and of the medial malleolus.
Attack:
Consequence:
- Periostitis; fracture, thereby possibly thrombosis/embolism
Comment:
- The tibia itself is not as sensitive, but it is surrounded by a periosteum which contains nerves and blood vessels.
