Elbow lever: Kanuki gatame - Latch control

Advantage:

  • The upper body are also fixed
  • Also applicable in the ground

Disadvantage:

  • Backlash from the aggressor possible
  • Difficult to approach
  • Unstable position of the defender

Here the aggressor is brought by an elbow latch (Kanuki gatame) to the ground and fixed in a lateral position.

Use at opposite grip to the shoulder:

The arm at the non attacked side is laid with the palm onto the shoulder of the gripping arm. The attacked arm is wrapped around the gripping arm, so the wrist of the attacking arm is fixed under the shoulder (Armpit) of the defender. The hand what is leaded around the gripping arm is set onto the upper forarm of the defender.

By stretching both arms of the defender, the elbow latch (Kanuki gatame) takes effect, and by a corresponding body rotation to the free arm of the aggressors, the aggressor is brought backwards, spirally to the ground.

The elbow latch is further maintained at the ground. The The distal knee of the defender presses on the lower ribs to support the fixation. By stretching the upper body upwards the lever takes effect.

The fixation technique is only suitable for temporary control of the aggressor, because the position of the defender over a longer time is quite uncomfortable and tiring.
