The German Ju-Jutsu Association e.V. (DJJV) is an association with the aim to spread and maintain the German Ju-Jitsu Self Defense and the Japanese Self-Defense Jiu Jitsu. It serves as an umbrella organization and national representation of individual state associations, at the international level it belongs to the Association of Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) and the Ju-Jitsu European Union (JJEU).
The motto of the Association is "Ju-Jutsu - With safety lifestyle".
Subordinate to the Federation are 17 regional associations: Each state has its own state association, Baden and Württemberg each have their own association. The national associations are in turn the roof for the respective local associations. The German Ju-Jutsu Association e.V. had 2006/2007 nationwide more than 50,000 members in more than 850 clubs.
Ju-Jitsu was created in 1969 by the German Dan-College. Initially, the new sport was located under the umbrella of the German Dan-College and the German Judo Federation. On the 20th of October 1990, the German Ju-Jutsu Association was founded as an independent organization and has since then acted as an umbrella organization of Ju-Jitsu. Since 1991, the club is a member of the German Sports Federation (now the German Olympic Sports Confederation). On the 6th of November 2004 it was decided at a general meeting to include in future also Jiu-Jitsu clubs in the association. This also included an own Jiu-Jitsu examination regulation. Thus the federation is also one of several umbrella organizations for the martial art Jiu Jitsu.
