Atemi waza
Punch-, strike- & kicking techniques
|
|
Atemi waza refers to the martial arts techniques of the hitting (atemi) by shocks (tsuki), strikes (uchi) and kicks (keri) on vital nerve points (Kysho ate) and other sensitive areas of the body, that can cause to the attacker pain, paralysis , unconsciousness or possibly death.
Atemi waza can globally be divided into two major areas, in the several Budodisziplinen there are often other differentiated classifications:
- Ude ate waza - Arm strike techniques
- Ashi ate waza - Foot / Leg strike techniques
Target point are all sensitive parts of the human body where a maximum impact with minimal success can be conceded. (see also the techniques in the area "Kyusho")

At the principle of atemi waza strikes, shocks or kicks are performed with a small target area and strong pulse, the pulse is delivered to the hit point of the attacker. To ensure maximum power transfer of atemi waza, in principle, a suitable form of movement (e.g. hip rotation, body movement) should support the technique. Shocks are straight, at least in the final phase wherein punches and kicks are usually performed curved.
