Defenses with the Kubotan


A Kubotan a short stick, most often it is used as a key ring. Within the self-defense he comes as a pressure intensifier for use. The oldest weapon of mankind is, next to the stone, the stick! Whether long, medium or short. The stick was always a useful companion since time immemorial.
A Kubotan should be several inches longer than the user's hand is wide, so that it is on both sides a little bit about than the hand.

Most Kubotan are about 13 to 15 cm long, the thickness varies depending on the material between one and 2.5 cm. Many are additionally provided with grooves for a better grip. Some specimens are pointed at the ends or rounded. A kubotan is in most cases made of aluminum or wood, but may also be made of plastic. Takayuki Kubota developed the Kubotan as a keychain for self defense and dropped the name in 1978 to protect the brand.

There are the Kubotan similar weapons like the palm stick, Dulo Dulo that were found at the Arnis or the Japanese Yawara, other terms are commonly used: Persuader, Tessen, Power Stick, Kubaton and many more.

The Kubotan as a weapon?

According to German Weapons Act, the Kubotan is not one of the cut-and-thrust weapons and is therefore not prohibited; please refer to the notice of assessment of the BKA in accordance with § 2 (5) of the German Weapons Law (Weapons Act). In some other countries, notably the United Kingdom, the Kubotan is considered as an offensive weapon.
