Foot/leg throws - Ashi waza
Keywords:
Foot, leg, Kuzushi, equal and opposite force, torque
|
|
Foot and leg throws (Ashi waza) include all techniques where TORI performs the fall leading movements or blockages using his feet or legs. You can divide the techniques into three basic principles:
- The wipeing (e.g. De ashi barai) TORI pulls the unstressed leg of the aggressor using his foot or leg.
- Blocking (e.g. Sasae tsuri komi ashi) TORI prevents the aggressor with his foot or leg to implement weight transfer.
- The tearing (e.g. Ko soto gake) TORI "robbed" the leg of the aggressor, on which his body weight is based on.
